Our Scotia & Schenectady Orthodontics Is Here To Help!

At Hoskinson Orthodontics, we're proud to provide patients of all ages with the highest level of orthodontic care in our comfortable and relaxed environment. When you are our patient, you can expect to be greeted with a smile when you visit us and receive the best possible orthodontic care from a team who loves improving smiles! We are here for you for the entire time you're improving your smile and will work hard to solve any problems or emergencies you may have with your orthodontic appliance.

The good news is that it is rare to have a true orthodontic emergency. But if something does occur such as a broken appliance that is causing you discomfort, you can rest assured that we're here for you so please give us a call so we can schedule an appointment for you.

Surprisingly, most problems with your braces can be remedied at home. While you wait for your appointment time, the following guidelines will help you solve any minor problems you may be experiencing. It's important to know that if you alleviate any pain you're feeling caused by a broken appliance that you will still need to come in for a repair appointment.

Lost Separator

It is common for patients to lose a separator so don't panic if it happens to you. Just give us a call to see if it needs to be replaced.

Sore Teeth/Discomfort

It is common for your mouth to feel sore right after we've placed braces on your teeth and following your regular adjustment appointments. If you're feeling discomfort or pain, you can take acetaminophen or another non-aspirin pain reliever. Gargling with lukewarm salt water can also help. Just mix one teaspoon of salt with 8 ounces of lukewarm water and swish it around inside your mouth. A warm compress placed over the jaw by any area that is causing you discomfort can also provide you with the relief you need.

Irritating Wire

If a wire has loosened and is causing you discomfort, try putting the wire back in place using sterilized tweezers. If that does not work, place a piece of wax over the irritating part of the wire that is poking you. If you need to cut a wire, do so using clean and sterilized fingernail clippers. Just carefully snip the wire behind the last bracket it is secured to.
