Losing a separator can happen. If a separator falls out we recommend calling the office during office hours Monday through Thursday to discuss next steps. The separator may need to be replaced a few days before the appliance placement date or we will recommend coming 30 minutes prior to the appliance placement appointment to have the separator replaced.
Virtually all orthodontic treatments cause some minor soreness or discomfort, especially after first getting your appliances or having them adjusted. If you experience discomfort, you can use over- the- counter analgesics, salt water rinses, and soft diet. For tissue tenderness apply wax to the wire poke or irritated bracket area.
If a wire comes loose or causes you discomfort, you can try to move the wire back into place using a sterilized pair of tweezers or a clean pencil eraser. If you can’t move the wire, try covering it with a piece of dental wax. In the problem persists, you can cut the wire using a sterilized pair of nail clippers. Please call the office at (518) 372-3424 during office hours to discuss a possible repair/comfort appointment.
If a bracket, wire, or another part of your braces or orthodontic appliance breaks or comes loose on an evening or weekend please follow the self-help guide provided in the folder given at the appliance placement appointment. Below are a few things that may help in the meantime and steps to take if your braces break.
Most problems in orthodontic treatment are minor and can be fixed either over the phone or with a visit to the office, but no matter what you experience during treatment, we’re here to help. Feel free to contact us at (518) 372-3424 with any questions about orthodontic emergencies or if you need to schedule a repair appointment at our office. We look forward to hearing from you, and we’re excited to help you achieve a beautiful new smile!
This is a SPECIAL ALERT:
The NYS Dental Association has closely monitored all developments with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
As we are aware the COVID-19 situation in New York is one of the most serious in the nation. At this time it is highly recommended that dental offices only provide emergency care for our patients; and close for a minimum of 3 weeks. As a professional office we want to be responsible and slow the spread of COVID-19. We will follow this urgent recommendation- the office will be closed for patient care starting Wednesday 3/18/2020. As of now the office plans to tentatively reopen 4/13/2020. Dr. Hoskinson will be available to see emergency patients – a patient experiencing discomfort. The office will reach out to our patients and reschedule all appointments once we know an exact date for reopening.
This is an extremely fluid, unprecedented event in our country. We are being faced with many unknowns and personal challenges at this time.
Happy & Healthy Wishes to all,
